Do I Have To Split Child Custody 50/50 With My Ex?

Not necessarily. Child custody is not that cut and dry in Texas. By law, the primary goal is to create a custody plan that is in the child’s physical, emotional, psychological, and educational best interests. This could mean your children will live with one parent and spend regular visitation time with the other parent, or split time between their parents’ homes relatively equally.

Does My Child Have A Say?

If you and your co-parent cannot settle on a child custody order, the judge may ask your children for their opinion, if the kids are old enough and able to express themselves.

If I Get Sole Custody, Will I Also Receive Child Support?

Generally, yes, though ultimately, it depends on the child’s best interests.
